Anderson became the first fast bowler to take 600 Test wickets in 2020 and sits fourth on the all-time list behind spinners, Muttiah Muralitharan, Shane Warne and Anil Kumble although he should eclipse the latter this year.
He has formed one of the all-time great seam partnerships with Stuart Broad over the last decade and was expected to follow his former skippers Sir Andrew Strauss and Sir Alistair Cook by receiving the Queens most prestigious honour.
