Dinosaur diversity came to a dramatic end around 66 million years ago, as scientists have long linked the end of this megafauna era to an celestial impact event that had struck what is today the Yucatan Peninsula in southeastern Mexico.An international group of researchers working jointly on a study of material from the Yucatán Peninsula’s famous Chicxulub impact crater has pieced together the chemical composition of meteoritic dust with that of the geological belt pertaining to the dinosaur extinction.
