Donald Trump’s impeachment trial opened with a dramatic video of how the violence unfolded at the Capitol
Democrats opened Donald Trump’s historic second impeachment trial by showing a graphic video of the deadly attack on the United States Congress that came soon after the then-president told his supporters to “fight like hell” against his election defeat.
Key points:
- Donald Trump is the first US president to be impeached twice
- He is accused of inciting his supporters to storm the Capitol on January 6
- His lawyers argue that the trial is unconstitutional and he has a right to free speech
The 13-minute video starts with Mr Trump’s speech to fans near the White House on January 6 during which he told them, “we are going to walk down — and I’ll be there with you — we’re going to walk down to the Capitol”.
It then shows clips of Capitol police…
