Donald Trump’s impeachment trial: Key takeaways from day four as defence wraps up case in just three hours

Claiming the case against Donald Trump is a “political witch hunt”, attorneys defending the former president have taken just three hours to make their case in his impeachment trial.
Mr Trump is on trial in the US Senate on a charge of inciting the January 6 riot by his supporters, who stormed the seat of Congress in Washington to stop politicians certifying Democratic President Joe Biden’s election victory.
With the prosecution having wrapped up its case on day three, Mr Trump’s attorneys used just three of the 16 hours allotted to them.
Following closing arguments, the final vote on whether to convict Mr Trump over incitement of an insurrection is expected to take place tomorrow.
These are some notable moments from day four of the trial.
