Dog tied to clothesline dies in Brisbane heat

A Brisbane pet owner could face criminal charges after a dog which was tied to a backyard clothesline and left without shade or water died of heat exhaustion.

An RSPCA inspector went to the property on the city’s southside on Wednesday afternoon after neighbours raised the alarm.

RSPCA spokesperson Michael Beatty said no-one was home and the dog was in “serious distress” in the 33 degrees Celsius weather.

“It had got its tether caught around the clothesline and it was just sitting out in the heat,” Mr Beatty said.

“In this particular case there was no shade and no water, so that offence is even worse.
