Disney empire strikes back in streaming wars – The Australian Financial Review
Streaming leader Netflix has about 195 million subscribers at the moment. The House of Mouse is putting up a lot of cash in a bid to overtake it.
It can afford to keep raising prices too. Even after a price increase comes into effect next March, a subscription for Disney+ in the US will cost only $US7.99. That compares with $US13.99 for a Netflix standard plan and the $US14.99 that AT&T charges for its HBO Max service.
Using a sum of parts analysis, Citigroup reckons Disney shares could be worth as much as $US174 a share if the company can hit its 2024 targets. The 13 per cent surge in its share price on Friday suggests investors agree.
