They added that rangers and traditional owners had seen “multiple” wongari across the island, known as K’gari, from January 22 to 24.

Along with Wathumba, the animals were also seen at Orchid Beach, Sandy Cape and Waddy Point in the north, along with Eurong and Lake McKenzie further south on the World Heritage-listed island.
