Hyperactive disorders may be rooted in a human foraging instinct triggered by eating fructose-laden foods such as cookies and ice cream, a study suggests.
Researchers at the University of Colorado have argued that low levels of fructose activate a pathway that promotes foraging and the storage of energy as fat.
However, in excessive amounts, the same path becomes hyperactive – leading to cravings, impulsivity, and aggression that increase the risk of behavioral problems.
