‘Devastation and despair’: New taskforce to help Melbourne claw back from COVID-19 – The Age
Melbourne council has held crisis talks with the government on a recovery plan to get the city back on its feet following the heavy toll of repeated lockdowns on the economy.

The Agereported on Wednesday that lockdowns imposed to stop the spread of coronavirus across Victoria could punch a $41 billion hole in the states economy and drag it back to where it was in 2016 amid fresh warnings its COVID-19 outbreak is holding back the entire nation.
Forecasts from the ANZ and NAB suggest the Victorian economy will this year suffer the single largest economic hit of any state or territory on record, which will drive up unemployment and weigh on wages growth.
