In the past week Derriford Hospital has seen a rise in patients attending A&E, with some people reporting seven hour waits.
Last week, University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust urged people to “keep the emergency department for emergencies” after A&E became “very busy”.
People are now being asked to “choose well”. It comes as one patient told PlymouthLive they waited in A&E for seven hours on Tuesday after being told to attend the emergency department by a 111 clinician.
