Two men have been charged following the dangerous operation of a stolen car in Townsville this morning.

At 8.30am, two men were sighted by police driving dangerously along Riverway Drive in Rasmussen. One man was believed to be wielding a firearm at the time.

As a result, a short-authorised pursuit commenced and a tyre deflation device was successfully deployed.

The stolen car then crashed along Ross River Road where the driver was taken into custody.

The passenger of the car fled on foot, before climbing onto the roof of a nearby residential address on Tibarri Street in Kirwan.

After negotiations he voluntarily came down from the roof and was taken into custody.
