COVID pressure helps Uber tighten grip on local ridesharing – Sydney Morning Herald
The coronavirus pandemic is squeezing the ride share market in Australia with US giant Uber’s rivals – Ola and Didi – scrambling to stay afloat.
Dan Jordan, spokesman for DiDi, says Ola’s cuts were “not necessarily surprising” with COVID-19 lockdowns putting extra pressure on operators in an already highly competitive ride-share market.
“There have been three major players in the market, and it is a very competitive industry, I think what we’ve seen since we’ve expanded our product pretty aggressively in 2020 is we haven’t necessarily grown the industry but we’ve certainly taken quite a few rides off competitors,” he says.
