Viral fragments found in Melbourne wastewater

Health authorities are urging people in Melbourne’s south-east to get tested if they have any coronavirus symptoms, after viral fragments were discovered in wastewater.

Residents in Clayton, Clayton South, Dingley Village, Glen Waverley, Mount Waverley, Mulgrave, Notting Hill, Wheelers Hill, Springvale and Springvale South are urged to be on alert for COVID symptoms.

The viral fragments were recently detected in wastewater samples taken from a sewerage catchment serving those areas. The health department says it could be a case of someone in the early infectious phase or someone who is continuing to shed the virus.
