COVID has been detected in sewage at the Whitsundays despite there being no confirmed cases of the virus in the region.

The find has prompted health authorities to establish a pop-up fever clinic in the tourist mecca of Airlie Beach, with locals being urged to get tested.
Health Minister Steven Miles said the Queensland government had been working with the University of Queensland on a sewage surveillance program, which indicated there may have been a positive case in the region.
