COVID-19 outbreak combats vaccine hesitancy – The Sydney Morning Herald
The COVID-19 outbreak in Melbourne has spurred a surge in vaccination, including many people over 50 who were prevaricating about the AstraZeneca vaccine.
NSW has opened up Pfizer to the general public aged 40-49, while older people are eligible for AstraZeneca, in line with federal guidelines.
However, The Herald has heard some people who want to be vaccinated but are determined not to get AstraZeneca are going to great lengths to get Pfizer. Many people are concerned about the rare clotting risks that can emerge with AstraZeneca or a perception, rebutted by public health experts, the vaccine is less effective.
