People will need regular vaccinations to ward off coronavirus mutations in years to come, a top scientist has said.
The disease is likely to be around ‘forever’ in one form or another but outbreaks could be controlled by a global vaccine programme involving annual jabs, says Sir Mark Walport, a former chief scientific adviser, who was speaking to the BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.
Covid is not “going to be a disease like smallpox which could be eradicated by vaccination”, he added.
