‘Autoantibodies’ or ‘autoimmune antibodies’ are antibodies that are meant to protect the body from pathogens, however, instead of doing so, they attack its own cells, which in this case are the blood vessel cells. Specific types of autoantibodies called “antiphospholipid autoantibodies” attack cells in such a way as to promote blood clots.
