A US man who frequently posted about not a wearing mask, calling COVID-19 hype, has died of the deadly virus.
Richard Rose, 37, from Ohio died from complications associated with coronavirus on July 4.
His Facebook posts in support of the anti-masker rhetoric in the US have gone viral since his death.
Let make this clear. Im not buying a f***ing mask. Ive made it this far by not buying into that damn hype, he said in April.
Roses friends have spoken out, asking people to be compassionate towards their friend.
Hes been described by them as kind, funny and caring, NBC reports.
Those close to him also want the news of his death to serve as a cautionary tale to those not taking the severity of the virus seriously.
We were blown away, you know? You hear about this virus and you dont expect it to affect people, younger people like ourselves, his friend Nick Conley said in the NBC report.
Rick is getting slaughtered online right now for his decision that he made not to wear a mask and thats not right.
We should still be compassionate whether we agree with someones beliefs or not.
Someone has passed away and we should have some compassion towards that.
Rose died just three days after he was diagnosed with COVID.
His family said he had no pre-existing health conditions of which they were aware.
Its horrible that we lost Rick but the even more tragic part of that is who else became infected because of the actions that he chose, Conley said.
He wants people to realise that even if they dont know someone directly infected with the virus, its still very real.
I know a lot of people that havent met someone that they know of that has been diagnosed with the virus and I wanted people to see it was real.
And my hope is that people will see that this does happen and people will be more cautious.
