Coronavirus cluster in Sydney grows, as 15 new infections recorded

NSW has recorded 15 new locally acquired coronavirus cases, all linked to the Avalon cluster on Sydney’s northern beaches.

More than 38,000 people were tested in the 24 hours to 8.00pm yesterday — a record number for NSW.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the numbers of new cases represented a “pleasing” reduction in yesterday’s statistics.

Despite the drop in case numbers, she warned the community to stay across continuing alerts on venues.

Ms Berejiklian said more venues would be added to the already extensive list today.

“Our continued hard effort is required to make sure that we continue that downward trend,” she said.

“But as we know in a pandemic, things can be volatile and can move quickly.”
