Latest figures show the Covid-19 infection rate has dropped in four local authority areas across the region

Coronavirus cases in the North East are still on the rise despite four areas seeing their figures decline, new data has revealed.
Public Health England statistics shows the rate of Covid-19 infections per 100,000 people over the course of a week.
Three of the seven authority areas in the region have recorded a slight increase with a 1.3% rise in overall cases to 161 in the week leading to August 21 from 159 in the previous seven days.
