Coronavirus cases have increased by two thirds in the North East, new figures have revealed.
Public Health England data shows the rate of Covid-19 infections per 100,000 people over the course of a week.
Five of the seven authority areas in the region have recorded an increase with a 66% rise in cases to 162 in the week leading to August 18 from 107 in the previous seven days.
Newcastle still has the highest infection rate in the North East with 48 cases recorded in the seven days to August…
