Queensland Childrens Hospital doctors say they have never been busier than in the last few months, which they attribute to a surge of cases of a cold-like disease which can be deadly in young children.
The highly infectious respiratory syncytial virus produces mild cold-like symptoms, including a runny nose and a cough, in most infected people.
Eight-week-old Ebony Mead had to be fitted with a feeding tube after contracting RSV late last year. Ebony made a full recovery.
