However, there is optimism that a rebound in retail sales at the end of the quarter, in September, shows consumer confidence is high.
The relatively strong recovery has come even though China’s post-pandemic stimulus measures have been modest compared with countries such as the United States and Japan. That said, the world’s second-biggest economy is still relying on heavy infrastructure spending, financed through local government bonds, to keep things humming along.
