China is preparing to take the next step in its plan to compete with the United States in space.
A Long March 7 rocket carrying the second stage of the country’s space station will blast off this afternoon with hundreds of spectators expected to watch the launch from the beach of the holiday island Hainan.
China recently received criticism after one of the booster stages – which took up the first module of the space station – fell back to Earth in an uncontrolled fashion.
