China jails 10 Hong Kong pro-democracy activists who attempted to flee to Taiwan by speedboat

A group of 10 Hong Kong pro-democracy activists who tried to flee the city by speedboat for sanctuary in Taiwan have all been sentenced to prison by Chinese authorities.

The group, belonging to the so-called “Hong Kong 12”, faced trial on Monday in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen over charges linked to an illegal border crossing.

Tang Kai-yin and Quinn Moon, two members accused of masterminding the escape, were given the longest jail sentences of 3 and 2 years respectively by Chinese authorities.
