Carrie Lam announces sweeping changes to Hong Kong’s electoral system, sets December 19 election date

Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam has announced elections will take place in December, more than a year after they were controversially postponed over concerns about coronavirus. 

Ms Lam also said that laws will be amended so that people who encourage voters not to vote or to cast blank or invalid ballots will be made illegal.

But voters themselves are free to boycott voting or cast votes as they wish.
