The Spaniard had encountered the problem at last weekends 70th Anniversary Grand Prix and, during Friday practice in Barcelona, even a chassis change had brought no improvement.
Therefore the McLaren team gave Sainz a new engine for qualifying and it paid an immediate dividend as the relieved Spaniard achieved a starting position of P7 in his home…
