Car reverses into cop, hits car with baby aboard at Gold Coast

A driver in an allegedly stolen car has reversed into a police officer, before hitting a Mercedes in which a six-week-old baby was a passenger.
Police said officers were called after noon on Friday to a suspect vehicle, a Kia Optima allegedly stolen in October, on Elkhorn Avenue in Surfers Paradise after reports the car was being driven dangerously and running red lights.
The Kia was stopped in traffic on Thomas Drive at Chevron Island Bridge with a police car behind it, and an officer approached the vehicle on foot.
The driver drove off, hitting the side of the bridge then allegedly reversing into the police officer – a 45-year-old male senior constable.
