Byron Bay locals are outraged that an organiser of an illegal dance party has launched a fundraising appeal to pay for a fine that police say he was never given.

Patricio Lucas Calatayud launched the appeal, saying the money was to “pay the fines for the confiscated speakers in order to get them back!”.

“Since everyone always enjoys the parties we make we would really appreciate your collaboration in these hard times,” it states.

“Thank you in advance for your generosity and good vibes!!”

Police seized a generator, speakers, and electrical equipment in the early hours of Sunday morning from a dance party being held illegally in a shorebird nesting area at Belongil Creek, north of Byron Bay.
