Surgeons in New York have performed the first successful transplant of a face and hands, on to a young man who suffered 80 per cent burns in a car crash.
Joe DiMeo, 22, was driving home after a nightshift in 2018 when his car struck a pole, flipped and burst into flames. He awoke months later from a medically induced coma after a series of reconstructive operations and skin grafts.
