Drafted by Carlton with Pick 1 in the 2006 national draft, Gibbs would go to play 231 games and win a best and fairest in 11 seasons with the club.
But just 89 days after he was drafted, a then 17-year-old Gibbs was surprisingly named in an 11-man Carlton leadership group, headed by a new captain in Lance Whitnall. The previous years No. 1 draft pick, Marc Murphy, was also added to the group, despite being 18 years old and playing just 13 games in his first season.
