Mitchell Pearce’s horror off-season has been compounded by a broken thumb that requires surgery to ensure he doesn’t miss the start of the NRL season.
Coming just a few weeks after he stood down from the Knights captaincy, Pearce suffered a fractured right thumb during training last week.
He will go under the knife on Wednesday in a bid to be fully fit for Newcastle’s season-opening home game against Canterbury on March 12, six weeks from now.
