Brisbane set to pinch Melbourne’s AFL grand final – The Australian Financial Review
Queensland is set to pinch Melbourne’s AFL grand final, the first time it will be played outside Melbourne in its history, as the sporting capital fights to keep the Melbourne Cup and Boxing Day Test.

“Other states will be putting their hands up and I would hope that if a decision is made then it would be nice to see if Victorians would also get behind Queensland,” Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said on Monday.
The Andrews government is in talks to win some concessions such as extra games and a contract extension in return for giving up the AFL grand final, which was locked into Melbourne until 2057 as part of a $500 million package two years ago.
