Breakthrough frees tiny, powerful laser equipment from the laboratory

Researchers have developed a portable version of a tiny, powerful laser device that has potential applications in areas from medical imaging to hidden explosive detection. In a project involving the University of Waterloo and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), scientists developed a quantum cascade laser that can operate at temperatures much higher than previously possible.
