Brazilian state refuses to ‘take crumbs’ from mining company Vale SA after deadly dam disaster

Mining company Vale SA has failed to reach a legal settlement with the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais regarding a deadly dam disaster.

The state warned it would not take “crumbs” from the Brazilian mining company and gave it a 10-day deadline for a better offer.

Roughly 270 people died when a dam burst in 2019 at the town of Brumadinho in Minas Gerais after a dam burst.

The State Government and Vale had been in meetings to discuss an agreement, but those negotiations ended unsuccessfully, state official Mateus Simoes said.
