Five Greater Manchester boroughs have been placed on ‘red alert’ after the highest number of  coronavirus cases in a single day since the height of the pandemic in April.
With rates soaring, Manchester, Bolton, Oldham, Salford and Tameside are on high alert after infection rates went above the government’s 50 threshold.
While Rochdale, which saw a rate of 49.5 at the end of last week, is also teetering close to the red zone.
