Australian tennis bad boy Bernard Tomic has advanced to the second round of the Australian Open for the first time since 2017, earning himself a minimum of $150,000 in the process.
The 28-year-old was piggy-backed to the next stage by Japan’s Yuichi Sugita, who was forced to retire due to injury during the third set. By that point Tomic had seized a commanding position in the match, fighting back after dropping the first set to lead 3-6 6-1 4-1.
