Beef Australia 2021 showcases industry that wants to show its sustainability credentials
Catch up with Ollie and John
At 800kg, Ollie isn’t a normal pet or a normal mode of transport; but that didn’t stop John Hawkes from adopting the bullock or riding him through the street of Rockhampton– for the opening of Beef 2021.
John, a former stockman, said he fell in love with Ollie when he was a calf and had hand raised him ever since.
“I thought he just had the most incredible character, softness about him,” he said.
John drove more than 650 kilometres from Longreach to Rockhampton with Ollie in a horse float to come to Beef 2021.
If you missed their parade on Sunday, you’ll be able to find them at the showgrounds until Tuesday night.
