When the annual rumours of Manchester United eyeing a move for Gareth Bale appeared, the response was very much a ‘I’ll believe it when I see it’ vibe.

Not surprising considering the Red Devils have been linked with a move for Britains most successful export for seven consecutive summer transfer windows now.
But when news filtered through that Tottenham had stolen a march and were now favourites to sign the player they sold for a then world-record amount in 2013, everything seemed a bit more real.
But the responses were equally as negative.
