Australian government announces Pfizer as the preferred vaccine for adults under the age of 50
Federal health authorities have announced the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine should be administered to adults aged under 50, instead of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
The European Union’s medical regulator yesterday listed blood clots as a very rare side effect of the AstraZeneca vaccine, and the United Kingdom’s vaccine advisory board has decided to offer other vaccines like Pfizer to people under 30.
In response, the Federal Government asked its top medical experts to consider Europe’s findings.
They met today for several hours and made four recommendations.
Chief Medical Officer Paul Kelly said the Pfizer vaccine should be given to adults aged under 50, where they have not had the first dose of AstraZeneca’s jab.
