A rabies-like illness has been detected in a bat in Far North Queensland, as injuries from the animals rise.
Lyssavirus was found in a flying fox by a Biosecurity Queensland laboratory test, the ABC reports.
The broadcaster revealed the infected animal was found in suburban Cairns before it was euthanised and taken to Brisbane for testing.
Its the third bat discovered with the virus in 2020 after just one was detected in 2019.
