Australian Olympic champion Matthew Mitcham has detailed the stunning rise and fall of his tumultuous career, admitting a crippling addiction to crystal meth while battling severe depression.
Mitcham became the first openly gay man to win Olympic gold with a record-breaking performance in the 10-metre platform diving at the 2008 Beijing Games.
But years before tasting Olympic glory as a 20-year-old, Mitcham first trained to try and not to be gay which led to substance abuse and self-harm.
