Aung San Suu Kyi arrest: What is going on between Myanmar’s military and its de facto ruler?

After a landslide election victory triggered months of tensions, accusations of voter fraud and threats of a military takeover, Myanmar’s leader Aung San Suu Kyi has been arrested by the country’s armed forces in a pre-dawn raid.
She and several other officials from the ruling National League for Democracy (NLD) party were detained hours before a new session of parliament was scheduled to open.
Telephone lines in the capital Naypyitaw were reportedly cut and locals reported seeing troops on the streets in some areas.
Myanmar’s military said it had declared a state of emergency and would take control of the country for one year.
