With the end of the financial year on the horizon, the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has warned it has its sights set on work-related expenses in this years tax returns.
About 8.5 million people claimed nearly $19.4 billion in work-related expenses in their 2020 tax returns – and with the COVID-19 pandemic forcing thousands of people to work from home, that number is expected to spike.
But Assistant Commissioner Tim Loh says work-related expenses should reflect this.
