Athletes returning to Qld from Tokyo must stay in quarantine hotels: Tourism Minister

Olympians returning to Queensland from the Tokyo Games would have to isolate in hotel quarantine like “any other person” coming from overseas would expect, state Tourism Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said.

Athletes and officials heading to the Tokyo Olympics in late July were confirmed on Tuesday to be given priority access to COVID-19 vaccines before the Games.

The Australian Olympic Committee is preparing for up to 100 COVID-positive athletes to circulate in the Tokyo Games Village.

When asked whether returning athletes would have an isolation bubble similar to the arrangement used by the AFL, Mr Hinchliffe said at this stage the Olympians would have to face hotel quarantine.
