Australian shares are set to slide as news of the continuing gap between Republicans and Democrats over fresh economic stimulus measures checked gains in New York.
ASX futures were down 27 points or 0.5% to 5841 near 6.33am AEST. The currency was up 0.4%; it briefly traded above US72¢.
Shares on Wall Street mostly ended higher as big tech stocks drove a late rally. Amazon and Facebook each up more than 2%; Netflix surged more than 4%. Tesla was 4.5% higher.
