Gold analysts agree the merger of “equals” between Northern Star and Saracen — where Northern Star will control 64 per cent of the combined company — will lead to chunky synergies that will reward investors.
It’s a “rare example of a mining merger that has clear and material synergies to unlock”, UBS finds. The parties told the market on Tuesday they can extract up to $2 billion (and no less than $1.5 billion) over ten years in savings on a pre-tax basis, or up to $200 million a year.
