The Australian sharemarket has opened weaker as banks retreat and QBE Insurance tumbles after warnings of a $1.5 billion loss.
The S&P/ASX 200 is down 20.2 points, or 0.3 per cent, to 6736.5 points.
Travel stocks are under pressure as the spike in NSW COVID-19 cases has thrown Christmas travel plans into disarray with states such as Western Australia reimposing 14-days quarantine for visitors from NSW.
