Arona Peniamina wins High Court bid for new trial after being sentenced to life in prison for murdering his wife Sandra
A man sentenced to life in jail for stabbing and bludgeoning his wife to death in 2016 has been granted a new trial in the High Court.

- Mr Peniamina’s lawyers appealed against his 2018 murder sentence on the basis the judge had erred in his instructions to the jury
Sandra Peniamina died after her husband, Arona Peniamina, attacked her with “sustained ferocity” with a piece of concrete, the court heard at the time.
Mr Peniamina, who did not deny killing his wife, argued he should be convicted of manslaughter, not murder.
