Over the past few weeks, we’ve been on a mission to bust some of the wilder and more pervasive Australian animal myths.

During that time, we’ve learnt that quokkas really are terrible parents, whales definitely do get cancer, and dogs have a preference for pooing facing north.

But we’ve also learnt that Australia isn’t the only place where animal tales grow tall, and where truth can be stranger than fiction.

So for this latest installment in our animal myth-busting series, we’re going global.

Here in no particular order are some of the more persistent and weirder myths about animals native to other countries, sent in by you, the readers.
